Black and Gold

I decided to make posts about different inspirational stuff.
My motto when it comes to casual outfits it's that  'all black outfits works all the time'.It seems like the 'black+gold and maybe a hint of white elements' combination became a trend in high quality fashion. So when it comes to all black outfits i sometimes like to add a golden chain/necklace to spice up that 'black void'.

Post-Apocalyptic Fashion

It's kind of ironic that i’ve become obsessed with this style after “the December 2012 apocalypse”.The dominant colours are black, grey or green shades like olive.Combat boots, camo jackets, cloaks, leather pants, spikes, smokey eyes, chokers, shaved hairstyles, distressed fabric and attitude are some of the items that will help you obtain a good street warrior look. And also remember to play with layering.
For a further research try:Barbara I Gongini (which has some gorgeous leather jackets), Lisabeth Salander from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,Individuals 2012 winter collection,Boris Bidjan Saberi, cyberpunk,Rick Owens etc
.I have this image of a badass girl with a gun, running on some dirty streets, killing zombies.Think of Sucker Punch combined with the Walking Dead.

Here’s a cool tutorial I found for inspiration :

Tex Saverio is a young  designer from Indonesia that I accidentally found a few months ago.Oh and what a happy accident !It was purely  love at first sight with his breath-taking creations.Maybe I’m exaggerating but I don’t think there is a piece that I dislike ,therefore is hard for me to choose one.
But if I have to choose it would probably be “the Revelation” presented at  Jakarta Fashion Week in 2012.The playful way of mixing heavy and light fabrics and the wide range of ornaments in one glamorous gold color makes the dresses  a genuine piece of art.He definitely goes to my favourite designers list and I can’t wait to see more of his work. That’s all! x

As I said on my about page,on this blog I’ll show and discuss mostly dark and minimalist fashion so expect more of these posts! Minimalism relies on shapes,a clean design with strong lines, often giving a modern twist.
Searching through Moschino Barbie dolls and Dolce e Gabbana roses I was glad to spot some minimal designs. From Gareth Pugh to Balmain, here are some of my favorite pieces. As always, being one of my favorites,Gareth Pugh stole the show for me with his dark  british folklore inspired collection.Other designers like Phillip Lim,David Koma or Balmain also adopted an interesting approach.

Occult Fashion

Since when did occultism become a fashion trend? The last couple of years, religious and occult symbolism stepped over into the realm of fashion and has been spread everywhere from runways and editorials to t-shirts.Although influenced by goth, this style is more subtle. While the traditional goth fashion is more complex and glamorous ,this style can be worn in a more urban or casual way.To obtain the “ritualistic” look, you should look for hooded jackets or cloaks, sheer maxi dresses, draped clothing, all completed by either a statement piece (like crystals) or subtle alchemy symbols jewelry.
I’ve been studying occultism for a few years and even though I love this type of clothing I kind of cringe seeing  16 years olds wearing  black leggings with some Goetia demon sigils on them and thinking they look ‘so cool and edgy  ’.If you decide to wear these ,at least please do a bit of research.

There are a lot of online storeswith some really awesome occult design apparel like :
Sanctus,Black Altar Apparel,Noctex,Black Craft Cult, Actual Pain,The rogue and the wolf,Sisters of the black moon ,Killstar

Metallic fashion and how to style metallics

Metallics  is one of this season’s main fashion trends, rapidly adopted to the everyday style by a lot of people.
Whether is a statement piece or just a small touch, metallic items adds dimension to your outfit. When styling metallic pieces, adopt neutral colors to tone it down and make it the showpiece of your outfit.A little extra item like a metallic bag or shoes added to an all black or white outfit  (for example the Acne boots or Issey Miyake’s bag (3rd image) gives some great contrast. For the everyday style I would go for metallic accessories ,but go full sparkle during the night!
Since my blog is not aimed only to everyday style trends, let’s take a peek into the high fashion realm.Big fashion houses like Alexander McQueen brings in it’s Ready to Wear 2015 Collection a punk metallic vibe (2nd image).Metallic  aesthetics can be easily interpreted as an futuristic feature in editorials and photoshoots.Lately,I’ve also seen it  making its way into a more sportswear style.

Another designer that i'd like to make a brief introduction of, is a Copenhagen,Denmark based designer called Barbara I Gongini. The Faroese brand founded in 2005,presents a dark, often gender ambiguous clothing mixed in an urban mood.Simplistic and innovative, the brands’collections include geometric cuts, experimenting with deconstructed shapes and high quality textiles.

Her second line – The Black Line is more subtle, meant for a more approachable women’s wear.Pushing the boundaries of ethical fashion,Barbara I Gongini is fit for a minimalistic/avant garde style.

Futuristic Warrior Fashion

My ‘Post-apocalyptic fashion’postthat I did last year received a lot of positive feedback,so I decided to make another one revolving around a similar concept.Inspired by video game characters, the futuristic warrior look requires bold cuts, strong lines, metallic finishes and tough fabrics like leather. For an everyday, wearable edgy look, opt for metallic accessories or geometric details and asymmetric clothing.
I found one of my absolute favorites,Gareth Pugh’s fall 2008 collection(3rd image),the perfect representation of the futuristic warrior concept. The style and make-up evokes the image of an eerie sci fi dark elf.Another awesome label is DemoBaza(last image) who adopts a more sportswear, masculine style in their collections.

Nature Inspired Fashion

The beauty of the natural world will always be a fruitful source for fashion and art meant to blur the line between reality and fantasy.

Today we’re looking at editorials and haute couture collections that adopt a botanical setting conjuring a surreal, even fantasy-like atmosphere. In the middle, the forest girl wears earth-imitating textures and prints:Iris van Herpen’s dress (2nd image) inspired by thick tree trunks or Céline’s fall 2013 collection mossy clutch (3rd image). Barbara I Gongini in her AW 2011 Collection keeps a dark eerie vibe with an earthly color palette:dark greens, beige and browns.(last image)

Alexander McQueen’s iconic Savage Beauty collection is a perfect example for this concept.Nature was often the source of inspiration for McQueen which through he idealised the feminine form. The most memorable piece is probably the live flower dress. The fresh flowers from the dress started to fall off one by one as the model walked creating a breathtaking moment.

A truly inspiring individual,Minori often approaches natural themes for her looks. The Japanese shironuri artist chooses flower petals for her make-up and delicate fabrics.

Style Conscious

Believe it or not, the fashion industry is the second most dangerous industry to the planet. Between the (leather) tanning, gold mining and dye industries, fashion may look great on you, but not so much on "Mother Earth." This week we have links to bloggers who are looking into what it means to be a kinder consumer of fashion. And of course, we're all still gossiping about that Oscar's red carpet too.

The Plastic Fashion Concept

I love when fashion adopts unconventional materials and converts them into wearable pieces. The plastic trend emerged a few years ago from runways and quickly adopted on the streets.Ranging from purses to shoes and jackets, the clear aspect of the pieces recall a futuristic feel.
I have to mention that it was a bit difficult to narrow down the number of photos selected for the post. There is such a wide variety of designs for this concept.Coming in different colors and mixed with other textures, garments made of plastic can either look cheap, edgy and innovative or like Chanel(image on the left),still maintaining a classic touch.
Play with textures and incorporate a transparent item like a transparent plastic jacket(Miu Miu, Comme des Garçon) to a structured dress to get a minimal look. However if you want to maintain a casual style,a pvc clutch or bag like Jil Sander’s is the perfect item.

Origami and geometric clothing

Geometric or origami fashion has been a frequent choice for designers like Issey Miyake,Yohji Yamamoto or Gareth Pugh.Fabric manipulation and playing with different shapes creates a great 3D aspect of the garment. The multitude of textures and figures generate a great variety of designs.
The architectural structure of a clothing or accessory completely changes your outfit game.Pay attention to fabric folds or detailed features of the clothing.Kofta’s ‘Platonic Solids’ bags and backpacks collection catched my eye a while ago.Inspired by Euclidean Geometry, the bags present a modern clean-cut look.

Designers:Ying Gao and interactive clothing

Ying Gao is a Montreal-based designer mainly known for her innovative and experimental garments.Using sensory technology, the Chinese designer created clothing that responds to human interaction, sounds and light.

The Living Pod is a light activated organza that explores fabric manipulation and 3d textures while still maintaining an aesthetical appearance. Another project called (NO)WHERE (NOW)HERE  consist of two dresses made of photoluminescent thread and eye tracking technology that light-up when the viewer gazes directly at them.
What I really like about her collections is the idea behind them  which is owning less ,but better-designed pieces “as an alternative to the fast-paced production cycle of contemporary fashion”.The Post-Vernissage collection presents a structural design  by playing with textures and form.
Her work is a testimony to our contemporary changing world contributing to technological experimentation. The conceptual clothing remains an exploration of the interaction between the individual and its surrounding environment by bringing technology and fashion together.

A Visual Guide to a Casual Luxe Wardrobe

The Row Pre-Fall 2015
You’ve seen this style everywere:runways, street style photos, fashion bloggers.Because of it’s growing popularity this type of clothing is now more accessible to everybody at reasonable prices. So if you want to achieve that lush look but still keep it casual, you’re now able to afford it.

There are two things you need to remember when looking for cozy luxe clothes:

      1.Comfort
Give up the skinny jeans and go for vaporous textiles and clean cuts.Opt for wide leg pants or culottes and fluid dresses and shirts.Pair it up with an oversized clutch and sneakers or sandals and you’re good to go.

       2.Neutrals

From the pictures I picked you can probably spot the color palette you should go for.Neutrals are an easy way to build your outfit, even though they can make you look boring if used exclusively so make sure you play with textures and detail. Also, neutrals go well with metallics(I wrote another post about that here).
